Strathspey Mini Festival and Rugby Tens event

Things are falling into place for the annual Strathspey rugby festival.

The morning sees local youngsters getting together for games and coaching.

The afternoon is the bigs boys turn to do their worst in a ten-a-side rugby.

BarBQ, bouncy castle and a good atmosphere are the order of the day.

Is this the year Strathspey win their own tournament??

Strathspey RFC coaching

"The Club are committed to playing an expansive and exciting brand of continuity rugby. The Club will offer structured, organized and enjoyable training sessions to appropriately prepare players."

The senior team are currently coached by Grant Davis, Mark Lynch and Davie Kinnear under the watchful if distant eye of Kenny Deans who is an accredited Coach Assessor and level II step II coach - old style - in so many ways.

The coaches attempt to keep an emphasis on enjoyment and participation as well as leading the technical and strategic input.

They are always on the lookout for further support to strengthen the team.

The coaching staff are fully committed to the SRU coach education package. All coach education costs are met in full by the Club. A written outline of plays is provided and amended annually. Players are expected to be familiar with the options.

We are in a somewhat unique position in the sense that at least five of the current squad are completely new to the game of rugby having not played previously. The coaches and players have to work hard to incorporate a suitable learning curve. We have been fortunate to have a group of experienced individuals who are enthusiastic about the game of Rugby who contribute to the coaching model. The midi section works through the two Secondary Schools in the area, Kingussie High School and Grantown Grammar School. Johnny Croall and Mike Muir work with Grantown and Kenny Deans at Kingussie. The schools hope to combine again next year at senior level for the Scottish Cup and league in Inverness. Details of combined Strathspey training for this age group is being arranged currently but already includes the indoor training at Dalfaber, Aviemore each Monday evening from 8.00 - 9.30. New players will be made very welcome - we're expecting you!

Strathspey Senior Coaching - Thursdays at 6.45 p.m. for a 7.00 start at Kingussie High School under lights where possible; indoor in the games hall if the pitches are unplayable...

Fitness and weight work is flexible usually. Currently fitness work is done at Dalfaber indoors, on Mondays. In lighter weather we work on the pitch in Rothiemurchus, opposite Ski Road Skis every Tuesday at 6.45.

Minis on the move

Dave Mills has been appointed as the Strathspey mini co-ordinator. Well done Dave! Tony Aubrey is off to do his foundation training and plans are well advanced for the minis re-starting afetr the winter break. Players should note that there are already a number of events and festivals planned...training is set to start in Grantown on Sunday 2nd of March.

We are always looking for support and any parents interested in getting involved will be made welcome and will be supported to attend suitable training events.

Badenoch boys and girls will get going again after the Easter break, information will be out through the schools in due course.
